Like the other reviewers have mentioned, this is a great tool for those currently in the field and for those interested, yet still curious. Liliana is able to cover pretty much everything about the CMF industry in one book: various sub-categories and specific roles within CMF design, address misconceptions by offering behind the scene insights, and the value of CMF design/strategy within a company. I don't think this is just a great design tool, but an even better representation (if not, the first of it's kind) of a niche design field not many are aware of. Again, anyone who works in the field will greatly appreciate and agree with most of the content while the aspiring CMF designers will gain great insights and a comprehensive look into a creative, thoughtful, and meticulous design process.
As a Product Designer this CMF (Color Material and Finish) Book has allowed me to widen my knowledge of how to approach Design and how to express a deeper and meaningful story with the product. With the clear steps of the CMF explanation in Liliana’s book it expands to find new strategies on how to apply and produce a design and product.I am very glad that this book exist, since so many people even designers are still not really awarewhat goes behind the work of CMF. I find it especially interesting how this book helped me to create even more meaningful human connections. As an industrial design student, who was always interested in material, I found this book very informative. the book covers from basics such as what CMF is to its details based on the author’s insights being in a field. For CMF is a field where lots of misunderstandings happen, it was such a big help for me to think ‘why we need CMF design’.I refer to this book very often when I work on my product design projects, not just because it is really well organized with the design process, but also because it offers chances to open up more possibilities of design.When I read the book for the first time, I had to thought this is such a kind book that really were thought through to be balabced as much as informative and detailed, yet wide and not overwhelming.
Lilliana has compiled the knowledge and experience of being a professional CMF Designer into an easy to read book. While I had a basic familiarity to CMF Design before -- I gained a more deeper understanding of the details, considerations, process and story behind decisions. It is a great guide for Industrial / Product Designers, CMF Designers, and even Architects. This book has certainly helped me become a more well-rounded designer, and also showed that there is always more to learn. It has influenced the way I design and I have adopted the CMF Design process into my repertoire for future projects.
